Deadline: 9/30/2015 12:00 AM Associate Director, University Police - Parking (SLO)

***THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED***

Cal Poly fosters teaching, scholarship, and service in a learn-by-doing environment where students and faculty are partners in discovery. As a polytechnic university, Cal Poly promotes the application of theory to practice. As a comprehensive institution, Cal Poly provides a balanced education in the arts, sciences, and technology, while encouraging cross-disciplinary and co-curricular experiences. As an academic community, Cal Poly values free inquiry, cultural and intellectual diversity, mutual respect, civic engagement, and social and environmental responsibility.

Founded in 1901 as a vocational high school, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) is now one of only two polytechnic universities in the California State University system. Cal Poly is a comprehensive public university that offers over 60 bachelor's degrees and master's degrees in vastly varied practical and professional majors ranging from aerospace engineering to dairy farming to wine and viticulture, and many more common and unique offerings. Within Cal Poly there are six different colleges: Agriculture, Food, & Environmental Sciences, Architecture & Environmental Design, Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science & Mathematics. Cal Poly has a highly competitive admissions selection process and currently has a student body of over 20,000. Cal Poly is a nationally ranked teaching university whose guiding philosophy is "learn by doing." Its students benefit from this practical emphasis, resulting in Cal Poly ranking as one the highest ROIs ("return on investment") among the nation's public universities. This return can be easily seen by the high rankings that the university receives: the Wall Street Journal ranked Cal Poly 22nd in the nation for business/economics and 18th in engineering when looking at the best new graduates to hire; U.S. News & World Report rated it "the best" for a public master's-level university; Forbes.com shows Cal Poly as the 3rd highest ranked public university in the country for alumni earnings; and it was one of only two California public institutions named in the Top 100 undergraduate business schools by Bloomberg's Businessweek.

The University Police Department (UPD) consists of two divisions, Operations and Administrative Services. Reporting directly to the University Police Chief, the Associate Director is responsible for providing leadership, management and motivation to the Administrative Services Division of UPD, and may serve as the department head for Administrative Services in the absence of the University Police Chief. Responsibilities include the planning, organization, and management of the overall operation and administrative support functions of the Parking, Events, and Alternative Transportation programs.

This position requires the ability to effectively collaborate, establish, and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse university environment. The Associate Director must be a strategic thinker with the ability to collect and analyze data, establish facts, define problems and recommend solutions. Responsibilities include representing department interests and issues by participating in the campus planning process and serving as the liaison between UPD and campus planning for construction projects, plan review, safety recommendations, and issues related to university master planning. The position is also assigned the duties of primary liaison for the campus emergency operations center.
